RV1126 Face Recognition Access Control Mainboard ODM Case Study

rv1126 face recognition access-control

As smart security systems continue to evolve, traditional access control devices are increasingly being replaced by intelligent terminals with face recognition, network connectivity and remote management capabilities.

In this project, KICKPI worked with a smart security equipment manufacturer to develop a customized RV1126-based access control mainboard for a new generation of face recognition terminals designed for communities, offices, schools, factories and smart parks.

Project Requirements

The customer required a compact and reliable embedded mainboard capable of integrating AI vision processing, access control interfaces and network communication into one platform.

Key requirements included:

  • Camera image acquisition and processing
  • Local face recognition algorithm deployment
  • Wiegand, RS485 and relay interfaces
  • Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Display and voice prompt support
  • Remote device management and firmware updates
  • Low-power operation for long-term deployment

The mainboard also needed to provide stable operation in continuously running access control environments.

RV1126-Based ODM Solution

KICKPI selected the Rockchip RV1126 platform as the core processing solution for its combination of vision processing capabilities and embedded system performance.

The customized mainboard integrates the camera, display, networking and access control interfaces into a complete embedded platform. KICKPI’s ODM development covered hardware design, Linux system adaptation, camera tuning, face recognition algorithm deployment and system-level integration.

System Architecture

Camera → RV1126 Vision Processing → Face Recognition → Access Control Logic → Relay / Wiegand / RS485 → Door Lock

At the same time, Ethernet and Wi-Fi provide connectivity for remote management, configuration and firmware updates.

Key Development Challenges

1. Fast Face Recognition Response

Access control applications require rapid recognition. From camera capture to face detection, matching and door-opening control, excessive processing latency can directly affect the user experience.

KICKPI optimized the camera acquisition pipeline, algorithm processing flow and system task scheduling to reduce the response delay between image capture and recognition results.

The optimized solution provides a responsive experience suitable for real-world access control applications.

2. Reliable Door Lock Control

Access control hardware must reliably control door locks, relays and Wiegand outputs while avoiding accidental triggering caused by communication errors or abnormal system states.

The customized mainboard incorporates interface protection and isolation measures, together with optimized control logic and abnormal-state recovery mechanisms.

This helps improve the reliability of door lock control during long-term operation.

Project Results

The completed RV1126 access control mainboard supports:

  • Local face recognition
  • Camera image processing
  • Display and voice interaction
  • Wiegand, RS485 and relay control
  • Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Remote management and firmware upgrades
  • Stable, low-power operation

The solution was successfully integrated into the customer’s smart face recognition access control terminal.

Customer Value

By using a customized RV1126 mainboard, the customer was able to accelerate the development of its next-generation access control product while improving recognition responsiveness, system stability and product differentiation.

The same hardware and software platform can also be extended to applications such as face recognition attendance terminals, visitor management systems and smart access control devices.
